President's Corner

To all the members of Stony Plain Legion Br 256:

Many of you have asked why the Lounge closed suddenly and why Burger and

Steak Nights were put on hold. Now that I have returned from the Dominion Convention

and had a chance to catch my breath, I would like to share the following sequence of

events.

On Monday August 17th our Bar Manager submitted his resignation. On Tuesday

August 18th an emergency meeting of the Executive was held, and it was determined

that without a Bar Manager with the required certifications, and in order to remain

compliant with AGLC licensing regulations, we would have to close the Lounge for an

indeterminate period until this could be corrected.

The timing was unfortunate: I left on August 20 for the Dominion Convention in

Winnipeg and returned on August 30, while other Branch Executive members were also

away on holidays. With only two days before my departure, we had to process payroll

paper work, update the Point-of-Sale system administrator and access, and verify

inventory.

At the emergency meeting, the Executive unanimously agreed to review all

Lounge operations, and once an interim Bar manager was in place, to move forward

temporarily with volunteer bartenders. That process has been underway over the past

couple of weeks, and we are now ready to train volunteers and offer limited Lounge

service. Once enough volunteers are properly trained, we will look at reinstating our full

activities.

I would like to thank the members who have stepped up to help and the

overwhelming number that have contacted us with their support.

! hope this goes a long way to explain what has happened in the past three

weeks.

Respectfully,

Comrade Andrew Benkovich

Stony Plain Legion
