Presidents Message

The Poppy Campaign will be starting soon, and wreath sales have been going

well. This is the first year that the campaign doesn’t start on the last Friday of October.

Going forward, the Poppy Campaign will begin on the 24 th of October. Sign-up sheets to distribute poppies at Co-op, Freson’s and Safeway are posted in the entrance foyer of the branch. Also, there will be one Sunday distribution at Crafters to the Rafters on the 8th of November that will need volunteers. Take a look at the sign-up sheets and pick your spot! I am looking for some volunteers as “route drivers” to take poppy boxes and supplies to stores and businesses. These two routes are within the Town of Stony Plain.

Thank you to all the volunteers that have already signed up.

We have a need for members to attend ceremonies at schools on November 6 th .

No active participation in the ceremony is required but Legion attire should be worn.

There is also a need for an emcee to run a short Remembrance Ceremony at two senior centres.

We are still in urgent need of a bar manager and assistant bar manager (although

that position may soon be filled). I’m pleased that our cadre of bartenders is growing, but a few more would be most appreciated. We are working on getting back to a 3-pm

opening time, at least for one day a week, and we expect the rapid fryer to be back in

operation soon.

I’m pleased to announce that Comrades Terry and Sharon are our new Events

and Fundraising Chairs for the coming year. Comrade Jim Morris is now our Hall Rental

co-chair and is helping Comrade Vikki Scott. I wish them all success and thank them.

Veteran’s Dinner is coming up on the 8 th of November. Sign-up sheets are at the

bar. Veterans have their meal free, guests pay $35.00. Our previous dinners have been a great success, and we hope to repeat that this year.

Preparations for the Remembrance Day service at the Pavilion are well underway.

Volunteers for the potluck meal and other duties will be required at the Branch. Look to see if you can help out in some way.

Lastly, elections are coming up on November 17 th , and this year all Executive

positions will be in play. I intend to put my name forward for President and ask that you please consider running for a position on the Executive.
